Founded in 1932. Samogitian ancient amateur society ALKA. Currently, it is a famous Samogitian museum, which has accumulated over 102 thousand. exhibits.

The museum exhibits paintings by world-famous artists - L. Kranach, A. Karutis, FK Fabras, JB Lampis and others, as well as Lithuanian painters - P. Smuglevičius, V. Slendzinskis, K. Ruseckas, M. Kulieša, J. Oleškevičius, A Original works by Valeškas, T. Valius, V. Valius, J. Bagdon, J. Vienožinskis, A. Galdikas.

In addition to fine art, applied art exhibits are preserved, such as Renaissance, Baroque, Classicist style furniture, 18th-19th century. tapestries, valuable old prints, photographs, archeological finds from stone, Iron Age camps, settlements and cemeteries. The rich ethnographic heritage includes agricultural, handicraft and household items, of which especially original collections of cultures, sticks, spindles, towels and old Samogitian fabrics. A special place is occupied by blacksmith's works of art - tomb crosses and tops of chapels (sunsets). A particularly valuable old collection of wooden sculptures has been collected.

The museum also hosts educational activities, organizes exhibitions from the museum's collections, organizes afternoons, concerts, and other events to commemorate the anniversaries of state and prominent people.
