Founded in 1932 ALKA of the Žemaitian Antiquities Society. Currently, it is a famous museum of Žemaitija, which has accumulated over 102 thousand. exhibits.

The museum exhibits paintings by world-famous artists - L. Kranach, A. Karači, FK Fabro, JB Lampia, etc., as well as Lithuanian painters - P. Smuglevičius, V. Slendzinski, K. Ruseck, M. Kulieša, J. Oleškevičius, A. Original works by Valeška, T. Valiaus, V. Valiaus, J. Bagdon, J. Vienožinskis, A. Galdikas.

In addition to fine art, exhibits of applied art are preserved, such as Renaissance, Baroque, Classicism style furniture, 18th-19th century. tapestries, valuable old prints, photographs, archaeological finds from stone, iron age camps, settlements and cemeteries. The rich heritage of ethnography is agriculture, crafts, and household items, of which the original collections of cultivators, sticks, awls, towels, and old Žemaitian fabrics are particularly original. A special place is occupied by blacksmith's works of art - gravestone crosses and tops of chapels (sunshine). A particularly valuable old collection of wooden sculptures has been collected.

The museum also hosts educational activities, organizes exhibitions from the collections of the museum's funds, organizes afternoons, concerts, and other events dedicated to commemorating the anniversaries of state and prominent people.
