Exhibition of teachers and students of the Telšiai Faculty of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences “Spoons before Lunch”

On Thursday, October 8, 2026, at 5:30 p.m., a group exhibition of teachers and students of the Telšiai Faculty of the Vilnius Academy of Arts (VAA) “Spoons Before Lunch” will open at the Telšiai Gallery of the Vilnius Academy of Arts (Kęstučio g. 3-2).

The exhibition space opens in a state of uncertainty. Sometimes the works disperse, change direction, or remain suspended between conception and implementation. Sometimes they are returned to after a long time, sometimes they remain lying in the workshop – not because they failed, but because the process simply stopped at a certain point. In the exhibition, this intermediate point becomes sufficient in itself. What matters here is not what the work will eventually become, but what it is now.

The work of the teachers and students of the Telšiai Faculty of the Lithuanian Academy of Arts is revealed in the exhibition through the process. Works that are unfinished, perhaps lying somewhere, gathering dust, or perhaps never becoming anything more than a sketch on a piece of paper. This is a look at that part of the work that usually remains outside the boundaries of the public space. A look into the interior of the artist, which is full of a peculiar charm of confusion.

Sometimes the process is more surprising than the result. It moves, it gets stuck, it goes back, it branches out, and the initial idea can become a completely different piece along the way. This is where the beauty of the search takes place – not always neat, not always purposeful, but alive. The gallery space briefly becomes no longer a place of polished results, but a formless, pulsating space in which things have not yet fully decided what they want to be.
A stopped process is not the end. Sometimes it simply waits. It can be returned to in a day, a year, or never – but even when left at its intermediate point, it remains a valuable part of the creation.

The exhibition “Spoons Before Lunch” by teachers and students of the Telšiai Faculty of the Lithuanian Academy of Arts (VDA) will be open at the Telšiai Gallery of the Lithuanian Academy of Arts (Kęstučio g. 3-2) until November 7. The exhibition can be visited during the gallery’s opening hours: Tuesday – Friday from 12:00 to 18:00, and on Saturdays from 10:00 to 16:00.
