Half or half empty glass? This metaphor can be applied to many in a pandemic situation
businesses whose situation has become difficult and whose future prospects are vague. Among them is tourism
companies in the sector that have been forced to minimize costs have almost given up
sides? workers and put the rest into downtime. The incoming was hit particularly hard
tourism tour operators, hotels, guides.
Nevertheless, despite the difficult situation, the Lithuanian Chamber of Tourism (LTR) sees the glass
half full, and while the pandemic continues, tries to fill it even more with new quality. One of
examples are currently being developed, which will unite tourism service providers from all over Lithuania
Database. It will be able to find many companies in the tourism sector: from accommodation
and tour operators to guides and entertainment activities.
“This project has no analogues in our country and will be a huge step forward for Lithuanian tourism
sector. Information in several languages will not only make digitization and attractive
to submit proposals from tourism market participants, but will also serve as a platform through which local
suppliers will be more easily accessible to foreign tourism organizers, ”says Žydrė
Gavelienė, President of the Lithuanian Chamber of Tourism.
The possibility of creating a database and at the same time - inviting tourism professionals to discussions and
Lithuanian Chamber of Tourism received the winners of the Science Innovation and Technology Agency
announced a call for proposals under the measure “Tourism Innovation”.
True, the pandemic somewhat adjusted the project's activities and there were "live" meetings instead
digital. However, even here you can see a half-full glass - to participate in training
in the virtual space easier, a larger number of people can view the training material.
In the August - November training cycle, which consisted of 15 trainings on
digital marketing and sales and 17 trainings on the new database participated
more than 1300 participants from all over Lithuania. Acting of the Samogitian Tourism Information Center
Director Indrė Meinorienė is happy that out of 90 service providers operating in the district, as many as 34
Tourism specialists from Telšiai district participated in trainings organized by Lithuania
Chamber of Tourism of the Republic.
“These trainings showed how important it is for the tourism community to constantly communicate and attract
experts from other fields and even other countries and to study together. Especially - when tourism is waiting long and well
a difficult path in recovering customers. Given the high popularity and need for training,
we will provide an opportunity for everyone who has not been able to participate in the trainings to view them in a convenient way
on the website of the Chamber of Tourism, ”says Žydrė Gavelienė.
