In a film based on real history, Latvian emigrant Oleg (Valentinas Novopolskis) works illegally as a butcher in the suburbs of Brussels. He knows his craft well, but is fired after one accident. The work and the roof over his head are offered to Oleg by the benevolent Polish Dawid Ogrodnik. After settling down with people of similar destiny, Oleg realizes that the help was just bait. The man becomes a hostage to the criminal world and his past. The film was presented at the Cannes Film Festival's "Two Directors' Week".
"Hundreds of thousands of Latvian Russians do not have citizenship, which leads to a constant feeling of alienation and homelessness. The main character Oleg is one of them. Using journalistic experience and the talented Lithuanian actor V. Novopolskis, the director created a film relevant to the migrating Europe to the West and shocking the civilized world.
